Bungalow Reborn

This weekend Drew and I attended an open house at the Rose City Park bungalow of Dawn and Jeremy, authors of the Bungalowcious blog. The house looked wonderful, they did a great job bringing it back from layers of satanic pink paint (the paint color was actually called "satan" on the chip and it had covered walls, woodwork and fireplace). Aurora Home Tour

I attended the home tour in Aurora this weekend. The George Kraus house had a very knowledgeable and engaging docent as well as Jane Kirkpatrick who has written a trilogy of books about Emma Wagner Giesy, the first resident of the home. My reading list grows. The Keil house, also on the tour, is one of the properties protected by a Conservation Easement with the HPLO. The Next American Preservationist

I heard many thought-provoking talks at the National Trust conference in Austin last week. The conference theme was "The Next American City - Next American Landscape," reflecting the sense that preservation is really more about Place, than just architecture.
